10 Essential Safety Rules for Suspended Platform Operations: A 2026 Compliance Guide

Safety is the non-negotiable priority for high-rise construction. Whether you are using a ZLP630 or ZLP800, adhering to international safety standards (OSHA, CE, and EAC) is critical to preventing accidents and ensuring operational efficiency.

Below are the top 10 safety rules every site manager and operator must enforce for suspended scaffolding systems.

  1. Mandatory Pre-Shift Inspection
Before every shift, operators must perform a visual inspection of the hoist, safety locks, and steel wire ropes. Look for signs of wear, kinking, or rust. Never operate a platform that has failed a daily check.
  2. Standardized Counterweight Management
Ensure the suspension mechanism is secured with the correct amount of counterweights. For Hengxiang ZLP series, the standard is 1,000kg. These must be securely fastened to prevent accidental displacement.
  3. Personal Fall Arrest Systems (PFAS)
Every worker on a suspended platform must wear a full-body safety harness. This harness must be connected to an independent lifeline—never to the platform itself.
  4. Strict Adherence to Rated Load Capacity
Overloading is the leading cause of hoist failure. Verify the load (workers + tools + materials) against the rated capacity (630kg for ZLP630 / 800kg for ZLP800).
  5. Independent Safety Lock Verification
The LSA30/LSA20 safety lock must be in perfect working order. It is designed to lock the wire rope automatically if the platform tilts more than 3-8 degrees or if a hoist fails.
  6. Wire Rope Integrity
Only use factory-specified galvanized steel wire ropes (typically 8.3mm or 8.6mm). Any rope showing more than 10% broken wires in a single lay must be replaced immediately.
  7. Adverse Weather Protocol
Stop all operations if wind speeds exceed 10.8 m/s (approx. 24 mph) or during heavy rain, snow, or lightning. The platform should be lowered to the ground and secured during storms.
  8. Electric Control Box Protection
The electric control panel must be kept dry and locked. Ensure all emergency stop buttons are functional and that the leakage protection circuit is tested daily.
  9. Clearance of the Work Area
Ensure the area beneath the suspended cradle is cordoned off to protect ground-level workers from falling objects. Use toe boards and netting on the platform for added security.
  10. Certified Operator Training
Only personnel who have received professional training and hold valid certification should operate a motorized gondola lift.
